Chip (FLASH memory) support for the IP 1222 is only required when the printer will be connected by the network port using the cable that looks like a telephone cord. If the printer is connected by the fat parallel cable with the wire latches, even if it is available over the network, this printer is best supported by the SmartBOX.
Flash memory is installed inside the printer. Please ensure that the printer is powered off and unplugged before opening the cover. Place the extra stickers on the outside of the printer to remind anyone who needs to replace the printer that there is a chip inside that should be removed. If the printer is sent for service it is very unlikely that any chip in the printer can be recovered. Also the sticker that is actually on the chip should NOT be removed so that in a case where there are two chips installed, it will be easier to identify and remove the correct one.
| Please do NOT do this if you want to print your
registrations on plain white paper, or if you want to manually load the
Registration Keypacket stock, on demand, from the front (pull down)
tray.
This is only for the large, legal
sized, Registration Keypacket users who will load BOTH plain paper and
keypacket stock into the printer at the same time and want the system to
automatically select the correct stock for the item being printed: |
Since this printer has no front panel menus, and no paper size sensors in the main (lower) tray, there is no easy way to tell it that it has the larger stock in the lower tray. A file has been provided to us by the manufacturer that will reset the printer as needed if you can copy it out to the printer from the workstation that it is connected to. We have converted that into a little program that sends the settings out to the printer for you:
With luck, your printer will not have to be factory reset before the tray setup program will work and you will be finished in just a few steps. If this doesn't work the first time, just continue on with the rest of the steps in this list.
If these settings are not correct... Well, you need to continue on
here and do the printer reset sequence. If it is correct skip to the next
section.
Short version: As per IBM technical support.
|
If these settings are not correct... Well, you just have to try again. Please
try not to loose patience and simply start over at the printer reset
sequence.
| Please do NOT do this unless you have purchased the optional, second, lower paper tray. |
If you have purchased a second tray, you can now click here to activate the optional tray setting program This will allow you to move the plain white paper from the multipurpose feeder to the new tray. The key packet stock must still be loaded in the first tray, but you can close the multipurpose feeder since the plain paper will be in the optional tray.
| Please do NOT do this until the PAPER MENU options are correct. |
Squeeze the "wavey" tab at the back of the tray and pull the tray
stop ("Length guide") out as far as it will go. Make sure you can see
"Legal" through the hole in the slide.
Pull
down the "Manual Feed" tray at the front of the printer below the toner
door and above the lower tray. Extend the paper support and load
it with plain letter paper.
Note: The supports on this tray are delicate and easy to break. Please try to push the printer back as far as possible so that people will not walk into the tray as they move around behind the desk. IBM is now providing a metal tray support. This support reinforces the tray to help prevent damage if the tray is hit from above. This support does NOT re-inforce the tray against being hit from the side. If you have not recieved this metal support and are interested, please contact IBM via your help desk.
