Installing an EFPlus.com eForms SmartBox

The eForms BOX brings eForms support in a small external package to any Laser Jet compatible (PCL 5) printer. The following environment must be in place: The printer must:

have a "centronics" parallel port connector. Please take care to verify that it is the standard "type B" connector rather than the much smaller "type C" (see: IEEE 1284 Connectors for pictures)
be connected directly to the workstation or to an external network adapter useing a true IEEE-1284 printer cable which is included with the unit.
be near an electrical outlet for the power adapter which is included with the unit.
if connected to a network, be connected via an approved external network adapter. If the network cable plugs directly into the printer, that connection can not be used. Jetdirect printer servers may NOT be used. The following adapters are known to work:
- Pocket Print Server by Troy Wireless. Models TROY-2833 and TROY-2835

Update eForms in EFPlus.com eForms SmartBOX

First, verify that the BOX has a small white sticker saying PGEN 1.0. If you see a "Program 4.0" or "Program 5.0" sticker or no sticker at all, please contact our office for special files and instructions.

Once you have received the update email or downloaded the update from our web site:

First, save the attachment to a floppy disk. The attached file will be <printertype>.all. In this case BOX.ALL
copy this file at each workstation from the floppy to the local printer using the following command at the command prompt (Start / Programs / Command prompt):
```
COPY A:BOX.ALL LPT1 /B 
```
If the printer has a screen on the front panel, it should display and EFPLUS.COM Update message.

The small light on the box should show a blinking red. Wait until the light on the BOX stops flashing red and returns to green.

Troubleshooting:
- If the BOX shows a solid red, programming failed. Turn everything off, count to 10, turn everything back on and try again. Contact us if the problem persists
- If the light never flashes, the workstation may be connected to that printer via another workstation. Move on.
- If the printer begins printing anything, open the paper trays or press the "cancel" button then AFTER the printer stops, turn it off.
When the light is green Turn the printer off, count to 10 and turn the printer back on.

At this point the BOX should be programmed and working.

Robotics nuts!

Check out http://users.frii.com/dlc/robotics/projects/botproj.htm from Dennis Clark. This guy ROCKS! He has made (and sells but also releases code, docs, etc...) for a number of cool little robotic modules including whiskers, IR proximity detect and remote control, Sonar proximity detect, PWM, Servo, compass. Most of these use the little PIC 12C508 controller which costs basically nothing and is soooo tiny.
The 4 servos, 2400 baud serial servo controller is a wonder of magic and he sells the programmed chip for $8. Wow!
