WNetConnectionDialog info  Overview  Group

The WNetConnectionDialog function starts a general browsing dialog box for connecting to network resources.

DWORD WNetConnectionDialog(

    HWND hwnd,

// handle to window owning dialog box

    DWORD dwType

// resource type to allow connections to

   );

Parameters

hwnd
Identifies the owning window.
dwType
Specifies the resource type to allow connections to. This parameter can be the following value:

Value

Meaning

RESOURCETYPE_DISK

Connects to disk resources.

Return Values

If the function succeeds, the return value is NO_ERROR. If the user cancels the dialog box, it is 0xFFFFFFFF.

If the function fails, the return value is an error code. To get extended error information, call GetLastError. GetLastError may return one of the following error codes:

Value

Meaning

ERROR_EXTENDED_ERROR

A network-specific error occurred. To get a description of the error, use the WNetGetLastError function.

ERROR_INVALID_PASSWORD

The specified password is invalid.

ERROR_NO_NETWORK

No network is present.

ERROR_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY

There is insufficient memory to start the dialog box.

The function returns error codes for compatibility with Windows version 3.1. For compatibility with the Win32 API, the function also sets the error code value returned by the GetLastError function.

Remarks

If the user chooses OK in the dialog box, the requested network connections will have been performed when WNetConnectionDialog returns.

If the function attempts to make a connection and the provider returns the message ERROR_INVALID_PASSWORD, Windows prompts the user to enter a password and uses the new password in another attempt to make the connection.
