I've wondered what the hardware in these servos really is. It SEEMS that
maybe they run the PWM through a low pass filter to get an analog voltage
that they then compare with a pot on the shaft and drive the motor with
the difference. It SEEMS that the use of PWM is just a way to get analog
voltages. I've never taken one of these servos apart, but one of my
students brought one to class to play with. I found that just driving it
with an analog voltage between the supply rails did NOT make set the motor
position as I had expected. Maybe there's a schmitt trigger before the
LPF?

So, does anyone know what's actually in the servo motors?
