Forgive me if I don't 100% what you're trying to get working.

What you want to do should be pretty simple. For example, I have a small
bluetooth receiver that has a headphone jack and basically will turn any
set of headphones into wireless bluetooth headphones. I just set the
laptop to send all sound over the bluetooth link instead of it's sound
card, and the music shows up in my headphones. To do what you're looking
for I'd just plug that receiver into my car's stereo.

Now, with all that said, my actual experience with bluetooth is
horrible. Compatibility is STILL an issue, and the software that comes
with most bluetooth modules is utter and complete CRAP. I've always
wondered why bluetooth on the PC hasn't taken off, I now understand why.

Compatibility for standalone devices isn't that great either, supposedly
the GPS unit I have will just not link with a particular cell phone I
tried it with.

For a "standard" as old as it is to still have so many issues is a
shame.
