I actually bought the SX Tech Kit. Very nice. My only other mcu experience
at the time was the Basic Stamp, so this was quite a step. It made the
transition very easy, and the book was a great help.
I haven't had any Pic experience, but from what I've read about Pic's, the
SX is very similar in basic architecture, except for the lack of hardware
peripherals. Once you get used to the VP's, I think you should find it very
similar to the Pic.
As far as programming, I think you'll find that it's a lot more
interrupt-oriented than the Pic, due to the VP's. You need to exercise your
timing skills, and juggle multiple things in a single RTCC interrupt.
