Thanks for the feedback on using an external reference and programming.  I
will try out the solutions.

I have another question.  Has anyone used the external Vref input on GP1.
If so what is the minumum voltage?  The datasheet (DS41190A) on page 98
(P100 of pdf) states Vss to Vdd but then quotes a full scale range of 2.2V
to 5.5V.
