It seems to me I saw something like this in either the "PIC'n up the
Pace" book or "Easy PIC'n" book by David Benson.  It accepts a 5
digit decimal number and convert it to 16 bit binary.  You could use
this or modify it to suit.  I'm sure David would be happy if you
used it, as that is what his book was written for.  Check it out.
