Uh Oh, Not this issue again...

According to this August committee, electric fields, although they have
never been proven to cause cancer, are "possible" carcinogens.   They didn't
mention that water, air, food, stones and trees are also "possible"
carcinogens.  Really, guys, there are bigger boogeymen out there than
magnetism.

Many studies have been conducted looking for links to electric fields and
leukemia after an early study turned up some possible statistical
correlation.  The best summary of these studies is: inconclusive.

Animal studies have NEVER been able to duplicate any carcinogenic activity
through exposure to electric or magnetic fields.

Nobody seems to have bothered to imagine that a transformer substation could
also be home to dioxin, PCB's, or other known carcinogens, and this could
have caused the original blips in populations that live near substations.
Meanwhile, some members of the public have panicked, and thrown away their
electric blankets believing that will reduce their exposure to this
"hazardous carcinogen".  Luddites are everywhere.
