Er, no. There is no guarantee that you won't have some side effects. imho.

About 10 years ago the 1st tapeless announcement answering machines used
41256 and a Toshiba chip to do just that ;) Anyway, anything short of a
FPGA will require lots of chips to implement your functionality.
