It seems that some micreant is constantly forging subscription requests
for people that don't have any interest in the PICLIST.
If we were running the PICLIST from a "real" mailing list server like
Brent Chapman's Majordomo, instead of an old IBM mainframe (*), we could
1) Examine the logs and find out what jerk is doing this
2) Have the mail server require a "confirm" message for
subscription requests, before flooding a victim with mail
I've offered repeately to host the list on a machine where things like this
are possible. And I thought that was what the PICLIST fund was for, but
it's been over a year and nothing's happened.
My server will be moving soon from a 1.5 MB to a 384 KB link, so it's no
longer practical for me to offer to host the list. But perhaps we can find
someone who can?
Eric
(*) This should not be interpreted as meaning that I'm ungrateful to MIT
for providing the list facilities; they've been quite generous. I'm just
pointing out that if it were moved to a different machine we could have
better control of the list.

Actually it is a bit unfair to aRTFM people who are obviously incapable to
remember how and where they subscribed in the 1st place. It is even less
fair to bounce useless answers to useless requests to 1600 people who
mostly pay for Internet access.
