NO newsgroup. We would have to contend with junk mail,
spammers, ads and flammers. I use to follow one news
group that had alot of good information in it about
current events. The group now hits over 200 postings
a day, a majority of that are cross postings. While
I do not contribute much to this mailing list I do
read every posting and keep what may be needed later.

To go to a news group would be wrong for me.

    Boyz,

Lets keep this thing in email form shall we, the newsgroups do have a
large amount of wasted bandwidth. However there is a more subtle
problem, and that is that a large number of companies that provide
thier staff with a direct internet connection rather than going
through a dial up or other service provider, do not have an NNTP
server, and all internet traffic goes via a proxy system ... hence I
am one of those people that would not be able to get this discussion
list anymore ... are there others in my situation?

    regards,
    Scott.

Going to strictly a newsgroup is out of the question. I think the current point
of discussion is a e-mail to newsgroup gateway. We'll need to moderate that
somehow to keep the S/N ratio up.

Hi,

This group gets about a hundred messages a day.
I would also like to see a USENET alternative.
(In addition to the mailing list, not as its replacement.)

Good suggestions.  I'd add one more condition:
 3) Put it in the comp.* hierarchy (not alt.*)

This list is handled by LISTSERV which already supports such a gateway.
