Look at a past issue of Circuit Cellar (I don't remember the issue, maybe
September..) where there was a article on using a PIC to translate
key scan codes to ASCII.

There was a project in Circuit Cellar Ink this month using a '84 to
convert scancodes from an AT keyboard into ASCII.  Its a simple project
for a PIC.

I've also completed a project using a 6507 and 6532 to do something similar,
since the '84 lacks the memory for all the lookups I needed.  If your
interested in the source let me know.

Aren't the 8741's (?) good and cheap enough? ;-)
