Wouter [wf at xs4all.nl] has given us a high level language compiler with a
Pascal like syntax for the PIC (JAL), a bootloader for the '877s (WLoader),
and a margining in circuit programmer (WISP) in addition to numerous little
snippets of code and help. He has not charged for any of it, and regularly
provides support and updates at no cost. Unlike other commercial members of
this list, he makes no money from these and never asks for anything
(including now, I'm asking without his knowledge or approval... Sorry,
Wouter, if I embarrass but you've got it coming!).

I just found out (from a third party) that his 'scope is dead and he is
having a hard time improving the operation of the timing statements in JAL
because he can't measure the actual time (or jitter) that results from an
interval or delay loop. As a new father and recent husband, I know his money
has other places to go so it would be a lot to ask him to buy a new one.

If anyone has a good 'scope that they are not using, or a few bucks to help
buy one please consider putting it in good hands where it will benefit us
all. Keep in mind that shipment to the Netherlands would be required and its
not for a registered charity so the tax right off might be sticky. Still
worth doing.

P.S. if anyone knows an easy way to send $10 or $20 to the Netherlands
without paying $15 for the service, please let me know before I mail a
check.

One problem can be cashing a $USD check, overseas.  Some banks charge
insane numbers for that!

International Postal Money Orders are about $3, or you can mail cash
wrapped in paper, or probably use I-Escrow.com (I haven't checked but
have been told that they will do International transfers.)  Western
Union's transfers aren't quite $15, I *Think*, I know they sure get
expensive for larger transfers (I think they're about 10-15% or so?)

You can visit your local travel agency and quite often get cash from
many countries overseas, also it's possible that a Travellers' Check
would work here?  (The local travel agency hasn't been very responsive,
YMMV here.  Ask before acting <G>)

If you mail something, I'd suggest Airmail or Global Priority Mail, as
surface mail can arrive some 3 months later (I've had that happen from
Belgium to here.  We figured his cash was lost.  He forgot the Priority
Mail stamp.)  AirMail is ?$1? or so, I think?  Global Priority is $5 for
the small envelope, 4 pound limit, so Air Mail is probably good <G>

Nope, NOT YET, darnit!  ("Soon" in English-Speaking countries overseas,
last I heard;  they didn't specify whether this includes The Netherlands
etc., or not.)

I know people in France, Scotland and Norway, keep getting things for
them, WISH PayPal *DID* work but we haven't used it yet.  I'm betting
that the gent in Norway is asking weekly by now <G>

Bill Gates has a solution.

He's giving a speech on it September 11 in Sydney (while the games are on
;>)

Pre-release info shows it to be using the data mining add-ons in SQL server
to seek out a connection between your bank account and a vendors so that you
can e transfer money for very little cost.  Even if the transaction has to
go through 4 or 5 intermediaries.

Trust Bill to find a way to get lots more money into e commerce (using
Micro$oft products). Its called Microsoft.NET - and I expect that once you
are in the net you won't be able to get out.

This should be taken OT and given a new thread title like  'e-commerce' if
it is to become a thread here in PIC.

Bye.

A simple regular mail will solve the problem in one week from Europe.

James Newton and I have discussed PayPal, and he's currently testing ...
PayPal also gives $5 for each referral you make, and I told James that I'd
be _more_ than happy to give it all to Wouter.

when buying stuff on eBay, I have just sent the cash carefully wrapped up inside
a couple of layers of ordinary photocopier paper. maximum I have sent so far is
about $100, so that minimizes my loss if it does go astray. Above this I do tend
to try and use electronic transfer. To get the cash I want, I go to a travel
agent, and buy it there.
