'all: [ADMIN]: Tag reminders on replies. Last word?'

Due to a lack of overwhelming outcry from members to the suggestion that
replies NOT be checked and the reminder sent, and due to the continuing
outcry from a few members about the reminder being sent for replies, I've
spent the time required to program the checking program to ignore replies.
I do hope that will make more people happy and most importantly, not
discourage anyone from posting a reply. I also hope that people who are
regular posters will try to remember to correct the tags when they do reply
even though they will not receive a reminder.
The message is worded as follows:

Just a quick reminder, FYI only:
The subject line on your post of MM/DD/YYYY at HH:MM:SS
"subject line with no [PIC]:, [OT]:, [EE]: or [AD]: at start"
does not meet the subject rules for posting to the PICList; The
subject must START with ONE of, [PIC]:, [EE]:, [OT]:, or [AD]:.
The colon is required. The tags can also be typed in lowercase.
Re: is ok before the tag.
Posts, like this one, that are not tagged with one of these are
sent in a special topic called Other: which many PICList members
do not subscribe to. As a result, many of the members who would
be interested in your post or reply, did not see it.
You can ensure that more people see your post by selecting the
appropriate tag and re-sending your post with that tag at the
start of the subject.
You can turn off the Other: topic (and avoid the distraction of
mis-tagged posts) by sending SET PICLIST TOPICS: -Other to

P.S.
Only Admins should use the All: topic to originate a thread. When
replying to a Digest message, please edit the Subject line to
indicate the thread you are replying to.

Mark wrote the original text and I have revised it, what? 4 times based on
peoples suggestions for how to make it more friendly. I'm always open to
more suggestions. I want to avoid pissing anyone off (if possible) while
still teaching and I'm always amazed at how hard that can be <GRIN>. Any
help appreciated.
...I do want to point out, however, that this list is not a democracy. Its a
benevolent dictatorship. JORYS OWN THIS LIST. Not me, not you not anyone
else. Who can destroy a thing, owns a thing. If Jory says the list is no
more, it is no more. Jory has said that he is not convinced that these tags
are a good or bad thing yet. I am also not sure one way or
the other. That is why I'm asking for input. Well... that and it also seems
to provide a vent for people. I just don't want people to get the idea that
anyone other than Jory will decide what is to be done in the end. Please
don't be offended if you are part of a majority says "do this" and we "do
that" instead.
...And finally, I've been working to setup a real time archive of the
piclist with a fast search capability, all the posts back to the very
beginning online, and with the ability to assist members and non-members
with posting and replying to messages. The idea is that people could read
the list messages via a web page and reply using a form that would assist
them in correctly tagging the message, and would automatically search the
archive for keywords in their text to reduce the level of FAQs and admin
messages. The two major problems with that are that my little server is
about at its limit (and Jory has chipped in a new software license to solve
that problem, which I will install ASAP) and that it takes my programming
time to do the work. I'm trying to find the time to do it where ever I can,
but it goes slowly so please be patient.
