'Which C compiler to choose???'

Hello all,

I know this is a question threaded previously, but as there are new C
compilers for C on the market, I want to know the opinion of actual users of
low/mid cost (bellow US$150.00) C compilers for PIC.

   The options seens to be:
   PCM by CCS
       latest version: ?
       http://www.ccsinfo.com
Seens to be the more widely used
price: US$99 + shipping (US$29 to ship to Brazil)
   C2C by PAVEL BARANOV
       latest version: 3.27.3
       www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Network/3656/c2c/c.html
       Supports PIC and SCENIX
price: US$45 (additional US$15 for integration with MPLAB)
   CC5X by B.KNUDSEN DATA
       http://www.bknd.com
       latest version: 3.0D
price: Free version supports 1KWORD of program data
              US$90 (web purchase and delivering)
version supports 2KWORD of program data
   PICC by FED
       http://www.fored.co.uk
       latest version: 1.065
have integrated debugger (seens to not integrate with MPLAB)
       price: US$100 (on CD-ROM)

I'm using CC5XFREE and liked it (for a free version, it's very usefull),
but my codes are already close to 1KWORD and I need to upgrade, but I don't
think that US$90.00 for a compiler that only does 1KWORD is a fair price. So
I'll probably byt CCS or C2C (I need integration with MPLAB), but wants to
make the right decision without having to buy another compiler later.

   Best regards,

   Brusque

Edson,
As far as I know the CC5x Red version generates code
for the entire low & mid-range Microchip MCU family
(8K code).

I am using the CCS PCM with the PWM IDE and like the very useful lib-functions.
They have frequent updates and from my point of view, the price is fair.

Not every one charges $29USD to Brasil Edson.
And a free PCB to boot.

Do you mean Dontronics charges US$119 for PCM+PCB+shipping? Then I'll
pay another US$99 for one year of upgrades?

PCB meaning a SimmStick printed circuit board.
Re the upgrades, not my policy, and I disagree with it, but I'm not CCS.
Each company makes its own policy on upgrades.
In this case these are only handled by CCS, not by DonTronics.
I was simply giving you a cheaper option for purchasing in Brasil.

http://www.dontronics.com/piclinks.html#soft
may provide other cost effective solutions for PIC C compilers to
Brasil.

How come you didn't even include PIC C?  http://www.htsoft.com
PIC C compiles for almost the entire range.  Low - Mid - High compiles
effecient code.

It costs US$850,00 (not exactly low-cost and way ahead of the money I
have to it) and I've read in some places that the CCS PCM is way better.

With the compilers listed, it's a little strange that MPLAB-C17 by Microchip
has not been mentioned to this point.  In terms of generated code and
robustness of code, MPLAB-C17 produces as good a code as any.  It can combine
code written in MPASM with the linker, it has libraries, works great under
MPLAB, and is used to code the firmware in PICSTART Plus and PRO MATE.

Looking forward, if you are interested in the next architecture, MPLAB-C18 is
posted on the Microchip web site now for anyone experimenting with the new
18Cxxx chips.

It's at similar price point as the other high end compilers, IAR, Hi-Tech,
and ByteCraft, about $500.

this list is using it.

It's sad because I really wants to know the oppinion from the current
