I went for a look at the website mentioned in the letter from Andy about
the Com84 programmer.  Anyone know what type of diode D1 is?  It is a 1N914
or a 1N4001?

Brian,

On the web site of the com84 diagram it suggests the diode can be any small
type. I have used the 1N4148 (cos I have 300 of them!) and it works fine.

I have not tried the 1N4001 but can see no reason why it shouldn't
work - In fact I'll try it out this weekend.

As for the 1N914, this is not a diode number I have come across - it this
a US part number ? (I'm in the UK)

Paul

The 1N914 is, for all practical purposes, identical to the 1N4148.

The 914 is very similar in looks and electrical characteristics as the 4148

I've used a 1N4001 without any problems.

400X or 941 or 4148 all work fine here, it's very non-critical
