What if....we started a NEW mailist....and everyone that likes the [OT]
stuff could subsribe.  There are several free email list servers out there.
Granted...not as nice as this one.

We could make it a general electronics email list and such?

It doesn't work.  The OT subjects comes from the On Topic subject, PIC
and stuff, it is a normal deviation from the regular subject.  When
someone post an OT subject, it is searching for help on that thing from
people that read the PICLIST forum, since probably it is the best place
to do it, or because he knows that here there are people that would be
able to help.  The "all-stuff" list would be empty with few non-sense OT
subjects, while others OT will still here... I think this is just a
waste of time in create a new list.  There are thousands of other lists
around, why people still here? think about it.  It may exist a list
about "Why American?" or another about "k's and K's"... :)

I agree. You can't force people to write to the other list.
Worse, users will start flaming other users because of OT's in this list.

Anyway there is a very very thin line separating off-topic from on-topic
messages.

What about a message asking for the best way to interface a cell phone with
a PIC? Is it off-topic (because of the cell phone)? Or is it on-topic
(because of the PIC)? What if some other user answers back asking for the
specifics of the cell phone? Is the answer off topic (because is solely
about cell phones and nothing about PICs)? If the other list were already
created, should the answer be sent to the other list (because it is
"clearly" OT)? What when they start talking about cables and connectors?
These are absolutely OT. And when they post some PIC assembly code to handle
the communication? This is back on topic again... mmmm... What a mess!

Regards,
Andres
