'UV Question - slightly off topic'

How come EPROM chips don't glow purple/blue when we program them? It seems
that all those 1's should be going back where they came from (the UV light
we pump into them in the eraser).

Actually if you get a really good microscope and a low light camera - I'm
sure you'd see something...

Like maybe a nuclear-powered electron microscope? Nah, the probability of
personal harm would exceed the value of the experiment <G>

I distantly remember reading that most semiconductors emit a little
infrared like a LED so you might just try a very sensative IR detector and
see if you get some output.

Nice try!
I'd like to take all the CO2 exhaust gasses from cars all over the world
and convert it back to petrol/gas. And of course sell it back to you
again...
Maybe if I pumped the co2 *really* hard up the exhaust pipe I'd fill up
the tank....

Well - feed it over a heated (~400C) platinum/osmium catalyst and inject
some dry steam at around 10 atmospheres and make some methanol and maybe a
small amount of err alcohol as well - maybe you could put it all in a
trailer ;-)
Actually quite an easy process in principle, could use a control micro
of course...

Sounds like a good way to put nuclear reactors to work. Instead of having
Air Products Inc. (and the like) return the unneeded gases to the
atmosphere, we can eliminate the atmosphere!
Certainly would solve the air pollution problem those NZ sheep are creating

Well quite straightforward:-
1. Thermocouple sensors (usual range 100C to 600C approx)
2. Pressure sensor ah la motorola
3. Hot wire mass air flow sensor - ah la Bosch
4. Industrial spec'd PIC in peltier cooler if you really want short
wire links to the thermocouple ;-)
4. Accelerometer to measure the 'Gee whiz' forces when you get
the mixture wrong and it blows up in yer face!
