Bob:

The TRIS PORTx instructions work (and will always work) on all the
current PIC16Cxx processors... For ports A, B, and C, there's no
real need to go through the machinations specified in the Microchip
data books.

That said, I should mention that I personally never use the TRISx
instructions on those parts with accessible TRIS registers, unless
I'm REALLY pressed for space or time.
