Or was that TANFL? *

Here's what SEEMS like a free lunch - $200 of components of your choose for
$25 if I remember the original offer correctly.
You have to be a member but membership is free.

No guarantees from me here - have a look yourself if it looks interesting.

It's a nice and useful site, and they have the best prices for AVRs I've
seen anywhere, but I doubt that you'll end up gettinng $200 worth of
parts for $25.  I fiddled with it, sent in my feedback, and placed a
$200+ order, and I received the $25 credit for the BOM upload.  The $50
for feedback seems to be held up somewhere (or I wasn't quick enough),
and I sort of expect the $100 credit for $200 order to get applied to
future orders, if I get it at all (my order wasn't $200 any more, after
the $25 discount.)  We'll see.  I think I got a good deal anyway...

No PICs though.

Bill, please keep us informed on your results. I got the same offer
in e-mail (via EE-Times) but unfortunately, I am not ready to place an
order. I just finished an inventory that took all weekend and I work for
myself... Thanks,

Well, the "almost $200" worth of Atmel CPUs that I ordered through questlink
on friday arrived today (via UPS GROUND!)  Kudo's to questlink and All
American Semiconductor (the actual "distributer" involved.)  The remaining
part of the order (some max232 equivilents) is coming from a different
distributer and hasn't shown up yet, but I'm a pretty happy camper.
(AT90S1000As (nominal 512W flash equivilent of a low-end PIC) for $1.67!
(min quantity 15) (not including tax or discounts.))

The supposed credit ($100?) for a $200 order has not shown up, nor has the
$50 credit for "feedback" yet.  Like I said, that would be nice but I'm not
counting on them, nor are they really important for questlink to be a
useful site...

The sort of "meta-distributer" position that questlink seems to be trying
to fill is an interesting one, and I guess we as an "industry" will have to
see how things work out.  (Some of the major distributers have started to
do their own online ordering, even for relatively small quantities and
credit card payment, but many are still stuck back in the "dark ages."  All
American Semiconductor would seem to be a good example.  They have their
own web site, but they don't seem to be set up (yet?) for small orders or
immediate quotes.

>>    Bill, please keep us informed on your results.

As of today, it appears that questlink will apply all three discounts to
my initial order, meaning that I will indeed end up with $200+ worth of
components for ~$50 (once CA tax is included.)  This is considerably
better than I expected to happen (IYR, I was expecting at least $100 of
the discounts to apply to my NEXT order.)

I wouldn't say things have gone tremendously "smoothly" beyond the first
$25 discount - it sorta seems like their software isn't quite up to
keeping track of all the discounts you might be entitled to, but they
seem to be making up for it via some significant individual efforts by
their employees (good job, that!)  I didn't exactly COMPLAIN that the
discounts hadn't shown up, but I did mention it in a second set of
"feedback", and everything was cleared up pretty quickly (or appears to
have been.  The credit card statement will show for sure!)

I'm finding the site pretty useful for tracking down info on assorted
chips, as well, although there are some gaping "holes" that show up now
and then (it didn't know about AMD PLDs (now at Lattice) or Benchmarq
RTC modules (now at TI), for instance.)

I don't know where they are on "the first 1000 customers", but it's
a site worth checking out regardless...

Bill, thanks for the feedback! I'm about ready to place an order.
BTW, Lattice also bought Vantis.
