'Spontaneous reset'

I'm using a 16F84 with the WDT turned OFF.  I'm just running a very
simple LCD test case but the PIC keeps resetting every roughly 2.5
seconds.  The code completes in about 1.5 seconds and then goes into an
endless loop (Loop      Goto    Loop).  Is there another timout that I haven't
read about?

One possible answer...
Make sure each position your GOTO statements specify, actually goes to a
place in your code.
Example

GOTO main
.
.
GOTO start

Make sure "Main" and "Start" exist and that you don't have any variables
with the same names.

Are you at all crossing ROM page boundaries in your code?

Are you sure that WDT is off? It sure sounds like WDT with 1:128 prescaler.

The only other possibility internal to the PIC would be interrupts (on TMR0
overflow or on RB0 change). These are disabled unless you select otherwise.
Are you connecting MCLR to high? How are you powering the PIC?

The MCLR is connected to HIGH through a pull up resistor and I'm pretty
sure the WDT is off.  I set the program fuses every time I load the
chip.  The PIC is powered via a 5V line with a 1uf decoupling CAP
between the Vdd pin and Vss pin.  I'll look at the TMR0 or RB0 overflow.

Thanks,
Robert

Main and Start?  Start exists, but I've never needed a Main before
(except in C).
