Scot;
If you mean serial to the pic but controled from a parallel port then
check microchip's AN589.

I have my own quickbasic and executables available if you do this. I
used to run from DOS but now run from win3.11 when picstart+ gives me
hassles(ie pic16c74). if you have a fast PC you can reduce the program
time for each location which gives faster erase than the official pgm
algorithm.

My program includes a cursor selection of *.hex files

a spare printer port comes in handy for low budget logic analyser tasks.

Hi Graham.  I checked out a few sites with inof onn the AN589...it doesn't
look like it'll do the 12C508, which is what I want to play with. Actually,
I don't care if it's off the serial port or parallel, as long as it works :)
Have you managed to get the AN589 to program 12C508's ??

Thanks.
Scott.

I have successfully built and used the circuit shown in this link for both
the 16C84 and the 12C508.
It is self powered from the RS232 port.

I have an epcprox pcb file for it some where if you are interested.
regards
Stuart.

Hi Scott,
If you want, take a look at my homepage. You will find my ProPic programmer.

Both these URL's have schematics and software for 50x programmers.

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Pines/6902/

The software works on the dt001 board also.

YES, Scott, I have.
The program algorithm is slightly different and the hardware only
requires rerouting to the new pin positions, I DO program 12C508 with it
