Hello,

Anybody successfully been able to program a SX52 with a SXKEY and
SXKEY52.EXE from parallaxinc?

I'm having trouble getting the oscillator to run.

With the SXKEY28L.EXE i can get the oscillator to work (in the SX52),
so I assume that my oscillator circuit is working.

First, No this is not off topic as the SX chips are PIC clones.

It has been very sporadic and unreliable with the SX52BD/PQF 9910 part I
have and the SX Key rev E. I get it to start and run about 1 time in 5. I'm
told by Scenix that if I just shell out the $300(?) for an Advanced
Transdata version of the SX key,
www.adv-transdata.com/order_and_price.htm#Order_ICD
all will be well. Apparently Parallax
http://www.parallaxinc.com
and Scenix
http://www.scenix.com
were having an immature little hissy spat and we paid the price. I'd love
for someone from either company to tell me that isn't the case and that they
are working together, but as of right now,
http://www.scenix.com/tools/parallax.html
lists the SXKey software version 1.12 (even with SXKey rev F) as not
qualified for the SX48/52 and until this week, you couldn't download updates
to the SXKey from Parallax. Parallax says that Scenix won't be releasing the
52 until April and they will support it at that time, including free updates
if necessary. (So how can AT be supporting it now?) Parallax appears to be
interested in supporting the SX52 but are taking a "wait and see" attitude.
I agree.

Scenix says there later datecode versions of the 52 are more stable and a 1M
Ohm resistor from OSC1 to GND as advised by Parallax seemed to help.

I was given a special SXKey rev E 52 and SXKey52.exe version 1.16 by Scenix
that solves most of the problems but still has intermittent reset issues.

I will email you or post that software version if Scenix and/or Parallax
will allow it. You may want to contact jmartin at parallaxinc.com to request
a later version. 1.12 is the latest available from the website.

The SXKey rev E 52 was made to compensate for an error in the original 9910
silicon SX52. The only difference is a longer timeout on the communications
with the chip.

Thanks for the reply,

This makes things more clear.

I'm actually using a chip with datecode AB0004AB. Is this a
production revision with all final changes?

I'm using the SXKey52.exe ver 1.16.

I can debug and run the chip with the SXKey and SXkey52.exe, ver
V1.16 so my development can continue. I am converting a program from
SX28 to SX52 and adding new features. Still I can't get the
oscillator to start on its own with V1.16. I tried with V1.12 and
then the oscillator started and runs fine on its own. Does this mean
that my chip is a older chip?

I have been informed that V1.19 of SXKey52.exe will be released by
Parallax today (still nothing though). Hope this fixes everything!

Is the resistor between OSC1 and ground still recomended in the
production release? Mine works fine without a resistor. I have a
10MHz crystal, two 15pF caps and a 5.6Mohm parallell resistor. I am
told that a 1Mohm resistor should be used, will check this later. I
also tried a 12 MHz ceramic resonator, but didn't get a good result
(didn't spend a lot of time on this).
