Hello,

       I finished today my PIC17C44 board with 2 external EPROM, and
would like to know if someone has a program to split my program in 2
files to be recorded in my two external EPROM.

i know there must be programs out there that do this, the best i could do is
verify that my http://www.needhams.com emp-20 supports split eproms, but it loads
the file and splits it when it programs the devices.

well i didn't think to ask that. just set the split = 2 and select device =
1, for the first eprom and device=2 for the next eprom.

mIGUEL,

Chris Hoffmann wrote some beautifylly documented source code
for Turbo C to split hex files.  It may be what you need if you
can compile it.  If it does not fit your needs completely, it would be a good starting point.

Try emailing him and asking for the code.

I use Needham's PB-10 and it came with utility programs to do this. Look for
UTIL.EXE on their page.

>From UTILITY.DOC:

->
->
->
->SPLIT.EXE:
->
->SPLIT splits the source file (<filename>) sequentially into smaller files,
->as specified by the command line.  <an> specifies the file (i.e. 'A' specifies
->file A, 'B' specifies file 'B', etc.).  <nn> specifies the number of bytes to
->load into each file.  For example, A5 specifies the next 5 bytes into file 'A'.
->
->Examples:
->
->    SPLIT source.dat A1 B1 -- Puts one byte in file 'A', the next in file 'B'
->    SPLIT source.dat A2 B2 -- Puts two bytes in file 'A', two in file 'B'
->    SPLIT source.dat A1 B2 A2 B2 -- Puts the first byte into file A, the next
->                                    two bytes into file 'B', the next 2 bytes
->                                    into file
->
->When finished, the files TEMPFILE.<nnn> (where <nnn> = .A, .B, etc..) will
->be created, having the split in each file. Warning:  If a file of the name
->TEMPFILE.<nnn> exists prior to running SPLIT, it/they will be written over.
->
->SWAP.EXE:
->
->SWAP.EXE flips the byte order of a file according to specified parameters.
->For instance, the source file starts off with a byte order of 1,2,3,4, etc..
->SWAP changes the sequential order of these bytes.  If the new order is
->specified to be 3, 1, 2, for instance, SWAP changes the byte-order of the
->file to 3, 1, 2.  That is, THIRD byte (byte 3,6,9, etc..) of the file is now
->byte 1 (1,4,7, etc..), byte ONE is now byte 2, and byte TWO is now byte
->3 (3,6,9, etc..).
->
->Usage: SWAP <filename> <n1>, <n2>, ... , <nn>
->
->Where: <filename> is any file located in any valid filepath.
->        <n1>-<nn> desginate byte swapping pattern (from 1-8).
->
->Examples:
->
->     SWAP X.DAT 2 1            --  Swaps every two bytes in file X.DAT
->     SWAP TEST.TST 3 1 2       --  Changes bytes from order 1 2 3 and puts them
->                                   in order 3 1 2.  (i.e. Byte 3=Byte 1, etc.)
->     SWAP X.DAT 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 -- Reverses the order of every 8 bytes in the
->                                   file X.DAT.
->
->Note: The file <filename>.XXX  (i.e. TEST.TST = TEST.XXX) is created as the
->      resultant file.   If the message 'Cannot Create <filename>.XXX' is
->      printed to the screen, you must erase <filename>.XXX before continuing.

mIGUEL,

What are you doing for emulating?  I'm embarking on a PIC17 with ext memory
myself.
