'SPAM: [PIC:] Labeling of pre-programmed PIC's'

I use a Casio KL-P1000 (US$10 at Fry's). They have a 6mm-height tape that
fits very well on DIP and SOIC chips (both of which seem to have about 7mm
height). Here is an example, that shows the small font (the medium fits
chips as well), and 9mm tape that I trimmed to about 6mm (since I did not
have any at the time)...

The solution is very low-cost, and the unit does come with a stupid mouse-pad,
but is removeable. Also, since the tape is already 6mm, you just need to cut
to the correct width.
Cheers,
-Neil.

Yes, I planned to check some of the cheaper "markers".
I do have one simple one from Dymo. But it lacks some kind
of interface so I could run it the from (e.g) the PC.

Hm, that might become a bit messy when marking 50 chips. :-)

Did I ?
I looked up "scribbled" in my english/swedish dictionary, and
as far as I understand from the translation there, I did not. But
I might very well be missing something here...

Another subtlety of the English language - in some cases, "scribbled" ==
"wrote", although "scribbled" tends to mean more along the lines of "wrote in
almost-unreadable handwriting" or "wrote in a hurry".
You'll get used to it eventually :)
Later.

You've heard of getting off a list by "unsubscribbling" ? A friendly
corruption of "unsubscribing"
scribe - script - scribble - (Scrabble too maybe ?) = write
A Doctorate Thesis is written, most list postings are scribblings.
That doesn't imply anything about the content, just the style

You'll find anything with a PC interface is going to be fairly pricey - nothing less than $100, I'd say.
Actually that's not quite true - Casio do one that's built into a mouse (yes, really!) but the quality of
label (paper base) and printing isn't up to sticking onto ICs. And there's only one width of tape (12mm, I
think) so you'd have to cut it to width *and* length!

I think he means "to length", as far as the label is concerned, and you have to do this somehow. None of the
tape-based labellers cut the length without an unacceptable (to me) blank space at the end, to get clear of
the print head. If I'm printing a whole series of labels I set my Casio KL-7200E to "manual feed" and just
put a single space between each label, and scissor them apart afterwards. Cheaper labellers often don't have
a way to supress the long blank at the end (economy of manufacture, or building sales of label cartridges?) so
this may be worth checking, or you can find very high wastage I just checked my labeller, and the space
before the first printed character is 22mm (can't do anything about this at the start of each run) and after
the last character is 19mm (you can turn this off but remember to put a space between each label to allow for
cutting, and to do a "manual feed" at the end of the run). So for a single label with 20mm text length, the
waste is actually 205%!
