For the first time in 25 years, I didn't go to the Melbourne Cup.
I used to run the on course computers there, was DEC PDP's, then Vax's,
now Alpha's.
About all I will miss now is the eye candy, about right Dennis?

I decided to retire full time to DonTronics. :-)

Yep? Too many people, like Japan. Other race days I think are better, Blue
diamond stakes is one I like.
But Melbourne cup day is something special 104000 people at a horse race!

Hey, that's almost as many as the number of people that attend a
University of Michigan football game at the home stadium.  During which
time, of course, I sit at home and avoid even thinking of driving around
Ann Arbor... <grumble, grumble>

Boast Boast Boast:-
We still have the record for the largest staduim crowd at a regular event,
some 128K at the MCG (Used to stock 120K on a regular basis, but the
governments decided that it was "Unsafe" to have standing crowds)
So now it sits 93K. The new stadium at the Docklands is 110k. Not bad for a
country of less than 20e6

Probably is.  It's *much* more difficult to throw, sitting down.

Ouch Paul,
You hit a nerve there, remember that it was the Sydney crowds that did that
first, discusting, no sports people deserve that. OK so I am neglecting
that incident in Brisbane.
Actualy,
I thought that it was to make it harder for a large section of the stadium
to moon the umpire (Thinking of an incident on the hill in Sydney)
