'RS Catalog(ue) & CD'

1. If you are a RS customer be ware -
I assume that the new catalogue and CD is being introduced elsewhere at
about the same time as here.
The new RS CD autostarts and runs without warning or permission.
It APPEARS that it may overwrite system files that you may wish that it
hadn't.
At a minimum 1st make a copy of unidrv.dll in \windows\system just in case.
2. The new NZ paper catalogue is a joke - they have relegated the pricing
to the rear of the book (even though there is space for it in the book
proper as before). Evidently we are an inferior market here. Shades of the
good old days. Farnell can expect a sudden surge in business.
Do the new catalogues (or catalogs :-)) in other countries contain pricing
against line items?
The electronic access is quite good and half fast but providing a rapidly
accessed pricelist would have gone some part of the way toward addressing
their stupidity in failing to properly price the book.

Two books?
Blimey, don't complain, the UK one is *six* fat volumes. The CD version
is much better for your health...
I can see why the prices are listed separately though, that way they can
use the same catalogue in different territories and just print different
pricelists - or decide on the prices at the last moment to allow for
currency changes.

except it does not seem to be possible to subscribe only to the CD! new
subscribers will always get the books as well.

I wish I had that problem - I usually get 2 CDs and have to call them
for the paper catalogue, and explain that although I don't buy much
myself, I specify tons of stuff for customers (OK I don't often
suggest RS but would be even less likely to if I didn't have a paper
catalogue).
CDs are fine but will never be as good as paper for browsing and quick
access. The ideal would be a concise catalogue with more detailed info
on the CD. Dallas have got this exactly right - a book of 1-page data
summaries and a CD of full data sheets.

Hey what is the problem,
In Australia we just got the new RS catalog, one book only and one
CD only!. Seems that we can no longer use it as a world wide matching
catalog, gone are the days when item X on page Y location Z is the same in
Australia as it is in Korea etc.

We've had an RS account at work for over 30 years (well back in the
RadioSpares days!), I recently filled a form in asking how you wanted
the catalogue, books, CD, or both. Certainly you can easily order just
the CD, even without having an account, but I much prefer the books, the
CD is quite hard to find things :-(. I tend to look items up in the
book, then order them either via the CD or Internet.
