Hi all,

Thanks for all those replies to my request for PIC programmer information.
In the end I chose :-

DIY Electronics kit no. 96 - P16PRO 8/18/28/40 serial PIC programmer.

from :-        Quasar Electronics.,
                   Unit 14 Sunningdale,
                   Bishop's Stortford,
                   Herts.
                   CM23 2PA
Web site : http://www.quasar-electronics.freeserve.co.uk
Email : spam_OUTcatsalesTakeThisOuTspamquasar-electronics.freeserve.co.uk

Why this one?

1.    It's very cheap 9.95 + 2.00p&p (pounds sterling)(kit) as sourced in
Hong Kong.
2.    Programmes all serial PIC's.
3.    Uses standard parallel interface techniques - no dedicated
controllers, ie loads of             different software available on the net
to control it.
4.    Delivery was two days after the order.

The other one I had considered was PROPIC2, found at http://www.propic2.com .  It's
got really good windows software but no UK supplier.  Hopefully someone will
create this type of interface for my kit.

Maybe the PROPIC2 programing guys, may look at porting their software over
to the standard parallel designs, ie this one, David Tait's etc,  obviously
at a cost!!.  Here's a thought,  why doesn't someone (calling Bojan Dobaj
and Nigel Goodwin) produce something like PROPIC2's software interface for
these kit's.  Me? I'm just an engineer, the computers just a tool which
helps in my design work.

Final thought -

"If you can't sell the PROGRAMMER everyone uses, why not sell the SOFTWARE
that everyone uses!"

Maybe it's just a dream,  but here's dreaming!

Phil.

Hi Phil,
Actually ProPic 2 do use paralell interface and it CAN be used with
other programmers not just ProPic 2. If you want download a demo
software and try for yourself.
