Hi,

There was a discution about the ProPic software a few days ago.
I fixed some bugs in the software and hardware and putted a new
version V2.5 in my homepage. Everyone using ProPic should update.
I'm not asking for money anymore because I don't do this for living,
but if you like the Software and want to send me something you still
can register.

Best regards,

Octavio

G'day Piclist
Just a question for Octavio or anyone else that knows.
I have decided to build and test the Propic 2.5 programmer and
was wondering if the smaller pics (18 pin etc) just slot into
the 40 pin zif with pin 1 adjacent to the pin 1 on the zif.
Also if they can just plug in without any damage occuring to
the device and whether the software and hardware has any problems.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, the 18 pins PICS goes to pin 1 of ZIF.

Hi,

I built a ProPic a little while ago and used it mostly for 16C84
development without any problems. Octavio was pretty helpful and suggested
adding a little capacitor to one of the data lines when mine wouldn't
program.  When I get some time I will add the production programming
options, and start on a 16C73 project I have in mind.

I will probably re-design the power supply to use a 317 for the programming
voltage instead of the 7808. This will allow me to adjust the program supply
too.

I built mine on strip board, but if you fancy designing a neat PCB for it I
would love a copy. Octavio could probably post it on his page too.

Keith.

Thanks for your reply Keith,
I will be using the programmer on a '84 as well and then will
probably progress to a '74.
As for the PCB I will probably use stripboard but might design
a PCB layout anyway with Autotrax.
By the way where does that little cap go...
Thanks
Justin

So far as I remember (it's at home at the moment) the old design it needed
about 300pF on the clock and data lines to the PIC. I think the current
version has a slightly different buffering arrangement.

Let me know how you get on,

Keith.

Hi.

I've just finished making a PCB for the PicPro 2.5 (using Advanced
PCB/Schematic - Protel for Windows).

The PCB matches Octavio's original schematic, except that it uses a LM317L
instead of the 7808. Furthermore I've changed the V-reg. output capacitors.
It includes the 'production-mode' programming (extra LM317L+trim-pots).

The PCB is single sided, approx. 10*7cm, space for zif-socket and a socket
for in-circuit programming. Smallest clearence/track-width are 15mils,
which should make it easy to make 'at home'.

If anybody wants the PCB+schematic, I'll post it in personal E-mail as soon
as I've etched/tested it (beginning of next week).

Sounds good to me. Once it works could you send me the Protel files too, I
think our electronics lab can read them (providing I ask very nicely).

Many thanks,

Keith.
