Go to
http://www.findchips.com
and (for example) enter
PIC17C756
to learn that this part is available in a 33 MHz, 68-pin PLCC version
from Digi-Key for $19.43. It is also available from
Future/Active/FAI.
"Findchips" has been a wonderful resource for me and I hope it
is for you also!

We buy form Future and feel lucky that they had a few tubes
of 17C756s left. Now we gotta wait til they can get more.
Others places are out now too.

Just because it is listed doesn't mean you will get it in a timely manner.

Yup....
Talked to a App-engineer at Maxim to confirm that a DC-DC converter (MAX
779) was appropriate for a new design. No problems he said. Called for
samples. No Problems, they will be shipped next day. Data sheet said
1996. Called small orders to get an evaluation kit. Oh, they said--that
part was discontinued two years ago. GAAAAH. I'll bet the samples show up.
Got it in your hand? Its real. Otherwise, it isn't.
Also be sure you can buy it in 1-2's. National got me on that one.
Samples etc. No problem. Came time to order 200 pieces--minimum quantity
was a 4000 piece reel.
Caveat Emptor.

Welcome to Maxim.
Now try Analog Devices, they're worse.
Maxim announces many parts that they never make.
Analog Devices starts to make a part and then just stops.

How about Burr-Brown? Any recommendations/warnings about them?
