'Power Questions'

Hello all!

I have two different questions for separate PIC projects that both have to
do with power.

1) I am looking at a project where I will be controlling a relay with 120VAC
going through it.  Since the device will already have to be plugged in, it
seems like I should be able to siphon off power for my device.
What is the cheapest (in QTY 1K+) and easiest to do my own conversion?  (In
the past I have always used a wallwart, but here it just doesn't make
sense.)

2) I am looking at a battery powered project where I would like to use an
LCD.   Is the easiest way to conserve power by powering the LCD through one
of the lines of the PIC?  Are there any caveats that I need to watch out for
doing this?

Thanks,

Alan G. Smith
