I was reading through back issues of "New Electronics" magazine
recently. They featured an ad. for the "Polar Group PIC Owners Club"
that read as follows:
"Membership has its privileges. You will receive regular
updates in the form of a PIC Owners Club Newsletter,
that will share with you the most recently discussed
topics, design dilemmas and fixes. Data and applications
information, the world famous Embedded Control Handbook
(new 1995 copy available), access to the Polar Group
Technical Support Engineering Team and the Microchip
Bulletin Board System (MCHIPBBS), will all be at your
finger tips......."
I've got the Handbook already (cost me 12 pounds).
I already have access to Microchip's FTP / WWW / BBS site.
However, I would like to receive the above Newsletter.
What's the catch/cost?
The ad doesn't say. It just says:
"All this and more when you join the Polar Group PIC Owners
Club. To enrol, simply call < GIVES NAME & FAX/TEL HERE>."
So does anyone know anything of this club?
Any members out there?
Polar, are you listening?
They have an address in Bedfordshire,U.K.
I sent them a fax today. If/When I get a reply I'll let you know
what the story is.

I have joined this club. I got a nice glossy newsletter/brochure and my
name on a mailing list. Nothing further has yet happened (although I expect
in a month I shall get another glossy newsletter).

Well, I wasnt very impressed. I thought they were going to give me useful
information, application notes and all that. What I actually got was a
glossy leaflet every two months or so saying what the PIC can do, and what
Polar sell. (Very little in the way of example circuits and code either).
No mention of free databooks (my main incentive for applying - dont you
just hate it when you buy a databook, and its immediately out of date?)
Mind you, the chances of me ever buying PIC chips from Polar are pretty
remote while Im still a hobbyist.
