Any users out there with good or bad comments about this unit? Any
cautionary notes? Did you purchase from UK or Russia? Why?
I am just getting my feet wet and want to get a programmer. I would like
to get one that will be useable in the broadest context possible. I would
like to be able to program EPROMs, the full Microchip line including the 17
series, the ATMEL microcontrollers, EEPROMS, etc. I am not worried about
adapters as long as making them is just a matter of soldering wires in the
right places on a socket. The idea is that I don't want to be tied to one
variety of chip or have to buy/build & keep updated several boxes if
one will do. For $200.00 this unit seems an OK deal.
Once I decide which mfr I want to specialize in and if I need more powerful
debugging aids I can then get one of the specialized boxes. As a rank
beginner I think those power tools would be wasted for me.

The Engine programmer is simple and is able to program PIC(including 17
series), SCENIX(parallel mode), ATMEL, SGS, EEPROM, EPROMs serial &
parallel and more.
It's not quite ready though :-(
'The Engine' - Design your own programmer.
