'PIC prices'

Hi all, I have been following your threads with regards to purchasing pics
in Europe, USA, and Australia.

Since I live in South East Asia area, namely Indonesia at present, I source
most of my parts in Singapore.  The  name of the New Microchip Distributor
in Singapore is:

Gates Engineering Pte. Ltd.
1123 Serangoon Road
#03-01 UMW Building
Singapore 328207
Ph: (65)-299-9937
Fax: (65)-299-7636
Contact: Frankie Tan T. H.

Gates has been very cooperative in supplying me with PIC 94/95 and 95/96
databooks along with the 94/95 embedded control handbook.  When I travelled
to Singapore recently, in order to maximise my limited time in Singapore, (I
was in Singapore for Comdex-Asia, Oct 26-28), I sent a fax to Frankie Tan T.
H., in advance, for information on PIC 16C62XX and PICs available in
Singapore along with single unit prices.  He provided me a sample of a
16C84-10P, as well as quoted me (October 28, 95), the following PICs
available in Singapore, and single unit prices:

PIC16C55-XT/SO   US$1.95
PIC16C64-04P     US$5.02
PIC16C65-04/L    US$5.17
PIC16C71-04P     US$2.58
PIC16C73-04SP    US$5.05
PIC16C74-04P     US$4.88
PIC16C84-04P     US$4.02
PIC17C42-16P     US$8.42

I retrieved the Digi-Key catalog pages relevant to PICs, by ftp, and
compared the prices.  These prices are quite good!  I firmly believe in
trying to source my components locally rather than via long distance.  That
way if I receive a faulty chip, I can return it promptly!

I also applaud any means to stop the spams, I also notice many people
sending a message to piclist (and of course out to every person on the
list), trying to sign
off of the list.  I received the following instructions when I signed up:

You may leave  the list at any  time by sending a "SIGNOFF  PICLIST" command
to spam_OUTLISTSERVTakeThisOuTspamMITVMA.BITNET (or .....LISTSERVKILLspamspam@spam@MITVMA.MIT.EDU).

If  you send a "SET  PICLIST ACK NOREPRO" command,  LISTSERV will mail
you a short acknowledgement that it has received your message.

This is much better than getting the entire message bounced back at
you....(it also reduces the amount of non pic related data you receive)

Regards, Tom

Hi Tommy, thank you for the feedback on PIC prices. In Australia it is
almost impossible to get PIC chips at times as prices double then half
and lead times can be 6 to 8 weeks and that's on what you would probably
call common items, so I am going to try your Singapore contact to see if
he can assist.

I just repeat that for those that didn't believe me, or thought It was a
typo.

The prices double then half on some PIC components and that is in one
single day. It depends on who you speak to and what company policy they
quote.

    Mike, thanks for this reply.

Can you confirm that the first figure is US$ and the
second figure in parentheses is UK pounds.

Am I correct, therefore, in believing you are offering
    500 pcs 17C42-16/P at US$3.80 per piece?

Dear Mike,

I remember reading some price drop on overstocked PIC16C71s.
Do you still have some, in 50 - 100 quantity? If not what is the
cheapest PIC16CXX I can buy?

Thanks.

I am developing an electronic timer with pic 16c84, and also working with
other projects using pic16c7X. At this time I want to find where I can buy
the pics and compare prices, because I think here (Chile ) they are
expensive rather other places. An example: a pic 16c84 costs about Us $9
plus taxes and pic 16c74A about $35.
If someone know where to find the pics on the internet and give me some
prices to compare?

Well your price for the C84 isn't that bad, here in Canada single
quantities are about $10CND plus
15% tax, which is about in total $8.20 US with tax, as for the 16c74, I
assume you mean the windowed version, which is about $22US here. TTYL

Some internet sites to try:

DigiKey                 http://www.digikey.com/DigiKeySearch.html
Jameco                  http://www.jameco.com/

Search for "PIC".  It will give you info on stock and latest pricing ($USD).

Hope this helps!
