I normally have someone else do the layout on my PCBs, but
I needed a really small board, so I thought I would do it myself.

I downloaded the EASYTRAX software and the graphics drivers
from Protel's web site, but it starts in the CGA mode, and I  can't figure
out how to get it to start in the VGA mode.

Can somebody help me?

Hi Charles,

I think you have to  copy the VGA.DRV to GRAPH.DRV or run the VGA.BAT
file that does it for you. You do not change the graphics mode within the
App. It is determined by which *.DRV is copyed to the GRAPH.DRV.

This is from memory only. It will set you on the right track but may not
be 100% correct.

I think there should be a GRAPHSET.EXE utility, which should setup the proper
driver for you (which in fact is equivalent to copying the proper driver to the
graph.drv file, as it was mentioned in the previous answer).
