I«m uncertain how/where to read the revision

I have some DIL40 marked

16F877-20/P
9924BSL

and some PLCC

PIC16F877-04/L
9925SBN

First I thought the first one is rev B  ("BSL" after date code)
But then I see on the PLCC "SBN" after date code.
Still a B involved, but in another position...
Looks like S revision...

Strange!

Or is the characters after the date just manufacturing lot etc, and theese are not 'A* nor B revisions, but bug free (supposedlu) ones?

Thanks in advance
/Morgan

99 = year
25 = week code (week of january 1 is week 01)
S = 6 inch wafer line
B = Mask revision number
N = Assembly code of the manufacturing plant.

These markings are explained on page 179 of the 16F8XX data sheet.

Unless you (or Microchip) made a mistake, they don't match your F877
code, unless you change the BSL to SBL.

Strange, the DIL40 really reads "BSL"
As revision S is not here yet..., I believe Microchip did wrong marking, and it should be SBL.

I'll back you up. I have a couple of 16F877 devices in Plastic 40 Pin
DIP. I wondered the same thing  . . .

One has 9936SBW and the other 9924BSL in a larger bolder print.
(I got this one (BSL) from a batch from Newfound Electronics)

I have a pair of PIC that must be at mask rev H.

parts have on them:

PIC16F877-20/P
9943MHS

Others have the follwing and must be mask rev 3.

PIC16F877-20/P
9916B3P

I also have some 874's with

PIC16F874-20/P
9927SBW

These, unfortunately, look like Rev B parts!
