And how dumb am I?

I looked at the adcon1 and didn't properly read the mapping.  I shouldn't
have discarded your suggestion of checking adcon1 so quickly.  After some
thought (cursing and yelling... ;) )I went back to it and sure enough I had
left that pin in AD mode.  Its a wonder I got anything out of it.

So I had it set up as an output, AD channel, and I was writing to it.  What
I was getting out were sporadic blips depending on what else I did with the
port as a whole.

Mea culpa, mea culpa.  I be dumb.

Thanks for all of the suggestions from everyone.  I have changed the
subject line appropriately to RTFM...  We all know what that means.

RTFM was all I *could* do while I waited and waited and waited
to get my hands on a couple of 'F87X.  Notice that you would also have
the same problem with the 'C7X, since their A/D's are set up the same
way.
