Having thought it over, I'd be interested in participating in such an endeavor. For me, programming it in MS Visual Basic would be easiest. I think an object-oriented approach would allow plugging in of different PICs without impacting the rest of the design. MPSIM is the Microchip PIC simulator. gpsim is the gnupic simulator. gpsim is open sourced and free as in freedom. MPSIM is just free as in free beer. Those familiar with GPL have heard this free beer versus freedom metaphor hundreds of times... That way you could embed MPSIM into a gui of your choosing and then call the dll support functions for the simulation. Right Darrel? But I imagine what would actually happen is that someone will come up with a way to write scripts to simulate special situations. I am aware VB is very easy but I think it would be way too slow, thus defeating the purpose of the exercise. VC may be a couple of times faster than VB on the same computer, but that's not going to be an issue compared to the sluggish performance of MPASM/MPSIM. In 1987 I benchmarked an Alliant Unix-based machine in Fortran 77. This $250k minicomputer with 4-processors was the principal computing machine for an aerospace R&D center. A year or two ago I ran the same benchmark in VB6 on a Pentium III 333 MHz. The VB6 was 60x faster than the Alliant.
