'PIC's across the world'

Hi,
I'm from South Africa and I'm studying for a degree in Electronic
Engineering. In Pretoria we don't have that many suppliers of electronic
components and I was wondering how much a PIC costs anywhere else in the
world. I pay 40 Rands for a 16F84 here, and with the current exchange
rate I think would be equal to about 5 or 6 Dollars.
Ciao,
Graham.

Here in Australia we can pay between $10 and $14 for a 16F84 in one off
quantities

Best single unti price I've found in Australia for PIC16F84 is as follows..
-04P....$6 AUD +22% tax = $7-32
-10P....$6-49 AUD +22% tax = $7-92
Most "hobby" suppliers are charging $12-16 each for the -04P..... It's by hunting around you find the cheaper prices.

The place is Arrow (http://www.arrowaustralia.com.au )
and I don't know about anything other than the F84's I asked them about.
Normally they have a minimum order rule of $100 (total), but they will allow smaller orders of development items such as the F84.
Actually, now I think about it... they did ask if I needed EEprom as well, so I guess they must have access tot he entire range..... I f Brisbane is anything to go by, they had the F84-04P and F84-10P in stock, and it was a local call to the sales office.
Arrow used to be Zatek and Valtek(?) and have quite good linecards.
Where are you?

Hi!
This is good site in UK where I buy PICs:
http://www.crownhill.co.uk/phome.htm
And some examples(prices are in sterlings):
12c508A - 0,63
12c509A - 0,63
16c54 - 2,00
16c55XT/P - 1,85
16c58A-04/P - 2,05
16c71-04/P - 2,45
16F84-04/P - 2,00
24LC16 - 1,00
24LC56 - 1,50
MAX232 - 1,35
They have PIC16f84 integrated on SmartCard with additional memory, what I find
very handy.
regards
Neven

I'm living in the Netherlands. For a 1-off my boss pays about $6.5. In
quantities of 100+ the price goes down to about $4.5. But when I try to
buy one thru the _electronics-store_ here it'll cost me about $17 (30
guilders) !

Here in Portugal, where I live, I buy one 16F84, 10MHz crop, for about US$6,
US$6.5.
I don't know the prices for large quantities...

Have you checked Conrad Electronics? a one off 16F84 costs less than half
the price you mention:
12,95 to 14,95 guilders. That's about the price your boss pays.

Then I guess you local shop makes a hughe profit!
I buy 16f84's at 10-15 guilders from the local electronics shop
(Heck in Amersfoort, not exactly known as cheap)
or mailorder from Conrad (Rotterdam).

In Russia the electronic components Microchip are sold under such prices:
12C508A-04\p - 1.05$
16F84A-04\p - 4.18$
The price is indicated for Moscow, at purchasing one chip.
The discounts at purchasing 100 chips - from 0.15 up to 1 $ depending
on a type of a chip.
In other large cities the cost approximately same.
In Russia also there are analogs of electronic components Microchip of
local development.
For example chip KR1876WE1 has such possibilities:
- 52 commands of the processor
- ROM - 1024*16 bytes EEPROM
- RAM - 128*8 bytes
- Flash RAM 64*8 bytes
- Operating frequencies from 0 up to 8 megaHerz.
- At a clock rate 32768 Hz the current of consumption of a chip is less
than 30 microAmperes. In a condition "Sleep" - less than one
microAmpere.
- 13 pin in\out. 25 mA source / sink per I/O/
- Two timing controllers (one of timing controllers - WDT).
The price of a chip at purchase from 100 pieces - less than 2 $.
