OK.  I have software to create my own PCB layout.  Now I need to find a "board
house" to produce small quantities.  Any recommendations?

The best and least expensive PCB  house in the USA is MILPLEX.  They
have a web page at milplex.com.

In Australia I have used East Coast for small runs (3-15). Minimum cost for
a few boards approx 100mm square, double sided with plated through-holes, but
no solder mask or overlay is about $200 (mostly setup charges). In the USA
or Canada check out Alberta Printed Circuits - they offer a 48 hour prototype
service - 2 boards for < $100. I have not used them myself (by the time I paid
for shipping it would not be hugely cheaper than East Coast). See

I'm in the same position, and will take any advice and/or experiences of
others.  But to start my own search, I visited YAHOO and found about 50
links to manufacturers' sites.  The URL of the YAHOO page is (get ready for
this):

http://www.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Companies/Electronics/Circuit_Boards

            /General_Manufacturing_Services/Fabrication

Whew!  I'd just copy the web page into my mail program, but the web page
text does not include the URL of the various companies-- only their names.

Please continue to suggest any companies you have had positive experiences
with.  The othes here, myself included, will find it extremely helpful.

Thanks,

I would not hesitate to recommend AP circuits in Canada.
Whatever they have in their inbox at 7 AM mountain time
is built that day, checked and mailed by fedex the next day
and you have it on your doorstep the next morning.

I have used their service more than 10 times and have no complaints.
roughly $50 one time charge, boards are around 0.80 / sq in
plus $25 shipping.
helluva deal.

Contact http://www.apcircuits.com
there is a new user file you should get and read entirely.
then FTP the gerber files and off you go.

Have fun...

There's a company up the road from me here in Phoenix, AZ, USA, called
Avanti (see their web page at: http://www.avantiweb.com/).  They do
beautiful work, but their pricing reflects this.  I can't recommend them for
prototyping jobs.  But, it doesn't cost anything to ask for a quote.  So, I
suggest adding them to your "Request For Quotation" list.  Get all of your
ducks in a row, and then enter the final specification of your board into
the "form" on their web page.

Do this for lots of companies and go with the one that makes you feel the
most comfortable.

P.S.  The reference to Yahoo was of great service to me.  I found a couple
of places I had not heard of before.  For example, EP Circuits
(http://www.uniserve.com/epcircuits/) offers 36 hour turnaround time for a
double-sided board for $0.50 per square inch and a $40.00 setup fee.  You
can e-mail them with an attached ZIP file containing the Gerber photoplot
file and the Excellon Drilling file plus your name and address and Visa card
number.  And, three days later...  Yahoo!

I mentioned Avanti because they do good work.  But, you have to negotiate
the price.  And, you have to know what you want to pay, first.

I have used Masse Circuit Co 55 Chase St,Methuen, MA 01844-3771 Phone:
(508)794-5443 in the past for runs of 100 to 1000 Mil Spec boards. Very nice
people. Shipped on time. Good quality.
