Hello

Out of general interest does anyone know what mcu's are used in engine managment
systems and what manufacturer uses what chip. I know of the TMS370 but does any
one know what EMS systems that this unit might be used in Bosch lucas etc..

Particularly what is used for the Ford Zetec engine management.

Just out of interest. I want to learn more about these applications

Grateful for any info.

Chris.

Chris,

>From my work and experience in the Engine Control field, most
engine control processors are made by either INTEL or MOTOROLA.
The INTEL variety is the i960 series I believe.  The MOTOROLA
parts are the 68XX series if memory serves.  About the european
mfg's, I'm not sure.  But I do know that TI has several sockets
in the ABS and Active Suspension areas, as well as many others.
But to my knowledge, TI has no engine control sockets, except
for possibly 1 or 2 small 4 cylinder engines.  Don't quote me
on this info, but I believe it to be correct.  U.S. Ford and
GM use many TI 370 uC's in many of their modules.

Hope this helps you aout some.

                                          Regards,

                                            Jim

Years ago, Chrysler used the 1802 family. I don't know what they're using
these days.

I believe some Fords use a variant of Intel's 8096 mcu.
Do an internet search for diy-efi (Do It Yourself Electronic Fuel
Injection), this is (was?) an ongoing project by a group of people
trying to roll their own efi.  There are links to more info,
literature references and you can search the archives for lots of
usefull stuff.

Hope this helps,
