Has anyone and data on the JVC and sony hime video control protocol
LANC.  I plan to code a PIC to control a number of video recorders
for industrial image archiving of video images from a large project
    we have at work.

Any thoughts, code, or references to PC interfaces for the LANC
    protocol would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance,

JVC and SONY do not use the same protocol. LANC is used by Sony and Canon.
JVC uses something else. There is info on LANC in a UK site. Search the
web for LANC. The information is sufficient to roll your own. I've lost
the URL when I erased one of my bookmark files.

I have a strong feeling that JVC are not so happy to part with their
protocol info for small camcorders, as opposed to SONY who do not really
mind as long as the product is good.

Almost all newer Canon and SONY camcorders have LANC connectors and the
remote controls are (almost) inter-operable when connected by wire (as
opposed to IR).

hope this helps,

Peter

PS: Just out of pure curiosity, may I ask what kind of server you're on
that gives you such a mirobolant email handle complete with ancient
routing path ? (Private email is ok: FYI it has screwed a script that
does something to incoming email here)

PS2: (looking at header) Ah, it's Lotus again... ok, you can't help it, it
must be your site admin's setup.

I got a document a few years ago from Sony "Protocol of Control L/Lf". It was fr
ee at the time. It is a one wire (open collector driven) serial protocol. Input
are defined as >2.1V or <0.4V.

There are two numbers on the document on the back cover, which may assist you in
ordering one. In the lower left is "9-972-453-11", in the lower right is "86C09
43-1" Copyright 1986. One of the numbers is probably a part number.

I've got some PIC code I downloaded off the net - I've uploaded it to my
website in the 'Files' area accessed from the main menu.

9-972-453-11 is a valid SONY part order number
