'NOT OFF TOPIC: List usage etc, another idea'

Yes a lot of rants are *very* annoying.

This list is for helping each other with PIC related things.
Helping with specific problems, also giving tip on things around PICs, for interfacing different things, discussion projects, EMC, etc

Think about when you post something it goes to 1800 people.
As the "OT" threads at least used to contain at least some *electronic related*  *information* I still try to read most.
(Because filtering will sometimes sort theese away I stopped filtering. Some "OT" threads still are electronic relevant etc.  Sometimes hard to filter the various OT notations as well.)

But now I and probably some hundred other people are thinking of unsubscribing.

If you want to realise the load on your fellow people by useless posting, then take a day off and open one of your later postings, read it, and close it.
Repeat all steps *1800 times*!

Yes I have also posted some complete offtopics some time ago but have learned.

I suggest we start a separate list where who want to chat for social pleasure or other topics can do so whenever we want.

The idea is to not put load on working fellow people.

I would too join that list, because I could trash all in it if I have plenty of things to do.

And would still keep informed about PICs on piclist.

(And all that without struggeling with filters)

Get this:
If there then is a topic in the piclist that we want to add some offtopic reply to, then we can just post it to the offtoPIClist.
So we can express our bad jokes, discuss manetic theories etc, without putting load on our fellows.

What do you think of this idea?

Starting the offtoPIClist  :)

Please keep to PICrelated things on this list!
List management postings are of course on topic
*as long as they contain something of value*

/Morgan

It's a very good idea! In fact, it's already been done. Generally, I agree
that list members should be careful about posting bad jokes and magnetic
theories. But a few of us didn't like the idea of would-be netpolice
deciding for us what the limits should be, so we started the OT list. Maybe
it stands for Old Timers, maybe it stands for Off Topic - you decide. If
you're genuinely interested, email me privately and I'll ask the sysadmin
to get in touch with you.

But don't harbor any fantasies that this would eliminate PicList messages
objecting to other posters' topics.  It will only illustrate the inherent
futility of attempting to legislate away people's human failings; an
approach which is especially ludicrous (IMHO) when applied to a medium such
as the Internet.

Umm. Yep... Hmm...
The goal is to lower the load OT amongst PIC relevant things.

As this really have become the offtopic list...
Maybe start a real PIClist instead?
And a page somewhwre stating what is relevant to post and what should be posted on a OT list instead.

(Yes, I mean it not as a joke)

Unfortunately I have got neither knowledge nor resources to set up a list.
Talking is easy...
