I agree about its "quality"... or lack of. If I could return the book and
get a full refund I'd do so in a New York minute.

WOW.....His book is one of the most recommended books for intermediate
level PIC'lers.
Why there is not webpage dealing with programming books without his title
listed.
Moreover, someone ranks it 1st. compared to some other similar books.
Of course I ordered my copy and is here in line behind Easy Pic'n.

Considering the limited range of PIC books available, I consider Myke's the
best!

Did you copy Myke's book so that you would like, now, to return it for a full
return of your money? I bought it and I think it is great.
Hats off to you Myke for a great book that, obviously, took a great deal of
time and effort to creat. I and many others really appreciate your effort,
Myke.

Well, it is easy to comment but very difficult to do it better!
It is hard to please an experienced PIC guy. Mike's book is meant for
beginners and/or as a handy reference. I trust it has done it
beautifully. I am sure it will make a good college text book, too. I
read it all.
Put it that way, can anyone in the list here suggest another quality
book than Mike's???????? May be Robert can answer this before he return
the book for a refund.
Cheers,
Steve

Amen. Speaking as a former Tech Editor/Writer, the work that goes into
something like this is unbelievable.

As a rank beginner w/ PICs, but with some microprocessor experience, the
book was enormously helpful to me, and I'm still going back and referring
to it. All in all, it was a good investment for me, and I'd heartily
recommend it to anyone who's getting started with PICs BUT already knows
a little something about microprocessors and electronics, with the
warning to watch out for typos. The book is packed with good and useful
info, it simply needs a thorough edit by a technical editor who knows
what she's doing. It's a pity that TAB books doesn't provide that.
Find a different publisher, Myke! :-)
For a REAL beginner who has no experience at all with microprocessors,
some of the small editing goofs could be really confusing, and that would
be a shame. For a pure beginner I think I'd recommend Easy PIC'n.

Is there an errata sheet somewhere online?

I just want to say me too (praising the book)
and me three for the online errata.
Actually could we help, if people find a mistake, a quick note
to Myke with the page and line number should suffice ?
Come on Myke, don't be shy, we know your listening.

Is it true that they have, on the new version of windows
managed to increase the MTBF from 95 to 98 minutes ?
(That's why they called it 95)

I think the Easy PIC'n book is way over priced, very limited technical
information(reading the 16F84 tech info downloaded from Mchip is more
helpful and in better detail). Nevertheless, the examples should be
welcome by beginners and ONLY beginners.
In comparision, Mike's book worth the money spent.

Robert and other book critics:
I suggest you give specific examples of why the "quality" of Myke's book
("Programming and Customizing the PIC Microcontroller") is lacking (to help us
readers and Myke to improve his next book). As a practicing analog/digital
design engineer I found a it good reference book with real world example
hardware / software examples. It doesn't have the errors that I found in the
Microchip application notes. Just try to get their I2C EEPROM stuff to work
right! I particularly found Myke's book sections on Serial LCD interface, PIC
interrupts, RS232 Communications, and Experiments to speed up first time designs
on the PICs. I worked with Intel and Moto ICs before. The only negative comment
I have about the book is that it light on the analog examples. But then I am an
analog / digital designer not a digital / analog designer.
If you have ever produced a project like his book I sure you would better
appreciate the effort that he made. No single book can be "the all" to any given
subject - that's why there are hundreds books on many technical subjects. The
Microchip PIC is not mainstream even in the microcontroller world, so any good
book like Myke's is valuable to me.
Sorry for the bandwidth but I don't believe Myke deserves the cryptic negative
reviews. And yes I have bought and read all the other PIC books.
Sincerely,
Wayne Foletta

Isn't TAB known for that. Many years ago they published a book on 6809
that had
errors in several hundreds region ( i don't remember but it was a lot! )
