'Microchip support'

Does anyone know if Microchip plans to port their assembler and downloader
to windows?
I want to run winNT, but can't because I would be missing these tools (I
think). Is there anyone running winNT and using the DOS assembler and
downloader?
What is the e-mail address of their technical support?

You mean that NT (the Future of Windoze) won't run DOS apps? I was giving
some thought to looking at it on my second (non-Linux) machine, but not
if it means I can't run DOS stuff.

Of course it runs DOS apps. Quite well, actually. Better than Win95.

That's not saying much. Linux (via dosemu) runs DOS apps better than Win95.

But does it run Windows programs? Anyway, MPASM and MPSIM run under NT as
well as they run under anything else, which again is not saying much. I find
MPSIM particularly clunky.

Well, I'm annoyed more by the 3-lines-per-hour translation speed of
MPASM, and the fact that it messes with the BIOS for screen I/O
(which means that it can't be run in anything other than 80x25
mode, which I happen to never use (mostly 90x40)).

Yes I know that I can run those, but can I run the downloader for my
Picstart kit? It uses direct hardware access, a no-no by NT standards. Let
me know if anyone can do this.

As long as it accesses the standard serial or parallel ports, you will be ok.
Custom bus boards (like the PICMaster) don't work under NT (but do under Win95).

Frank:
What version are you using? MPASM version 1.21 is pretty fast
(especially when you remember that it's a very sophisticated assembler
and it's doing a LOT of work), and as far as I know, Kim Cooper fixed
the BIOS screen-writes a long time ago.

I not quite sure what you mean by custom bus boards. I've never seen the
PicMaster. I have a PicStart kit. Will the downloading software work for this?
