'Load Config command'

Hi all!

I have gone through the programming specs for the 16F8x, and I can't
understand what the 14 bit value does that has to be sent after the `Load
configuration' command. The PC jumps to 0x2000, alright. But then follows
a normal programming cycle, with data load instruction etc. So what is the
data word after the `Load config' command used for? Can I just use it as
the first word to be programmed into the ID/Config area (so that the first
programming cycle does not need a `load data' command)? Or is it just a
dummy value?

Any help would be appreciated.

Bye,
Georg.

You stumbled onto one of the quirks of MicroChips PIC-controllers !   It
has got a 'Load Configuration-memory' command, but does _not_ have a 'Read
Configuration-memory' command.  The only way to _read_ the
configuration-memory is to tell the thing you want to go and program
(sending a Load config-memory and the _required_ data you want to place
there. The data will thrown away because you won't follow-up with a
programming-command).  Now you can read the configuration-memory.

By the way, Does your Bulk-Erase command work ?
