Hi everyone,

I've just installed RedHat Linux 6.1 side by side with Windoze98 SE, It
work fine except for the fact that i can't run x-windows 'coz my card
(S3 Trio 3D/2X) was not detected by linux. Now, do you know where i can
get a driver for this card  ? Also, do you know of a way to save a web
page together with all its images and graphics, i'm using netscrape and
i found it very inconvenient to individually save all the images in a
certain page one by one...
Sorry for this OT but you guys always delivers the goods.... Happy Y2K.
Thanks

       All the best,
                       Alan

I don't know about the card, but you should be able to set up X by either running
Xconfigurator or xf86config. At the very least, you should be able to get X
running with either the VGA or SVGA servers. You won't have any acceration though.

Being as you have a linux installation now, try out the command 'wget'. It can be
used to grab entire websites.

I'm rather surprised about that.  Surely that is not such a recent
chipset as not to be included in 6.1.  Did you try selecting it
manually?

As previously suggested in a reply, just try a manual configure for
generic SVGA if you can't determine the exact driver.  Mind you, there
are some problems with "generic" drivers not working with the el-cheapo
SiS 559x chipsets, bless 'em ):-(.

Numerous feline exterior removal techniques.

% wget --mirror --recurse --no-parent http://quozl.us.netrek.org/ts/

Will fetch everything on that page and any images that are not in some
other directory, and any other pages at that level, but will not explore
upwards in the tree to get other stuff.

Or use Netscape Communicator, view the page you want, select the option
Edit Page from the menu, and all the inline images will be downloaded
for you as well.

For X stuff, you can check out http://www.xfee.org/ .  I know my card (SiS
620) wasn't supported in the last release 3.3.3 but it now (3.3.4).  Also,
check out the various distribution sites (http://www.redhat.com/
http://www.debian.org/ http://www.suse.com/ ) for the latest information,
patches, etc.  BTW, there are several updates to RedHat 6.1 on Red Hat's
site you may want to get (some dealing with security).
