'LCD Display Recommendations'

Hi - I'm looking for the lowest possible cost 128 x 64 or 128 x 128 LCD
graphic module. Non-backlit STN is fine. I've looked at Optrex, Seiko,
Hantronix. How do these stack up? Would appreciate your
recommendations especially on the quality of associated documenation for
the controllers including secondary source (preferably free)
information. While I'm at it, I'd appreciate the same input for LCD
character type displays. Please respond direct. Thanks for your help.

Ooo. I'd appreciate an on-line discussion on this - just make it [OT]. I am
extremely interested in other's experience with 1/8 or 1/4 VGA graphical
displays with PICs. I've got a fairly complicated display project coming up
and I want to use one of these instead of a 16x2 (or larger) display.
For those that are interested, Apollo Displays has a cool 1/8 VGA at:
http://www.apollodisplays.com/prod14.htm If they're saying $45/sample -
that's not too bad.

At work we are using a 128x128 pixel display, no back light, reflective
from PowerTip.
The guy who is programming it thinks highly of it and in quantity of about
400Per annum is about 25 pounds (sterling). It is a slightly green
display. It seems that most 128x128 displays hold to a single format. The
driver chip is a toshiba one. Unfortunately he had to spend a lot of time
converting C to assembler because our Z80 C compiler generated so much crap
writing to the display that it took for ever to update ...
If you are in the UK, take a look at a company called Inelco who retails
PowerTip products. Alternatively look in the RS catalogue and pay about 70
sterling for the same product.
