Hi - Tim & I are working together on a chording keyboard project, so I
thought I'd ask a few questions;

 Is it "de rigeur" on an AT keyboard interface to use an OC transistor,
instead of a PIC output, to interface to the AT?  (Instead of a pair of
pins per keyboard line, one to control the OC transistor, the other to
read the incoming data, it'd be nice to just use one PIC pin & "do"
{Output 0 to pin, Set as Output}, versus Set pin as Input, here.  I'd
use either two pair of diodes, or a pair of 5.1V Zener diodes, external
to the PIC for improved static protection, as I'm concerned that the
usual 100 ohm series resistor might mess things up!  Good clues here
would be appreciated.

 Also, what're the chances of a 16C84 or 16F84 design being fast enough
to do this job?  (9600 baud comm coming from the AT)  The "Keydler"
we're working on will be using a 16C66, is our current plan.  That
should have the "oomph" needed. (Part of my motivation in doing this
project is to learn so I can perhaps figure out a better way for my
girlfriend to type to her computer;  She's disabled, a "functional
quadriplegic", which means she's barely functional, and can barely type,
usually.  She uses DragonDictate, but in Dos and Linux she's stuck.)
It'd be nice to be able to use these 16x83/4 parts for this sort of
